Welcome to the 2017-'18 school year. My name is Nancy Papa-Ruppert and I'm a Reading Specialist. Currently I'm working as a Bilingual Title One Teacher Leader at Banting Elementary. I love helping kids learn how to read, write and become strong learners. The Waukesha School District has given me an opportunity to use my unique skill of being multilingual in four languages to help all students succeed. I have many years of teaching experience as a Classroom, Foreign Language, and Reading Teacher. In addition, I'm a certified Reading Recovery and Descubriendo La Lectura teacher. In my role as a Reading Specialist I strive to provide leadership in the area of reading at Banting, Waukesha, and the state of Wisconsin. As a member of the Wisconsin Reading Association I've presented at several Reading Conventions, written and published articles, and participated in Literacy Committees. I have an undergraduate degree in French from Marquette University, a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Education from the University of St. Thomas, a Teaching Degree from Alverno College, and a Reading Specialist degree from Viterbo University.
At Banting I work with students from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. I provide both English and Spanish small group instruction, and interventions to support growth in Literacy skills. My work is rewarding because I have the opportunity to help students reach their potential. It is my good fortune to be collaborating with committed and caring classroom teachers, a talented group of Title One colleagues, and Administrators and Coaches who inspire me to work hard on behalf of my students. My additional role as a Title Lead for Banting allows me to drive instruction, participate in a leadership team, and help to provide parent involvement events that are exciting and fun!
I'm a mother to two beautiful daughters, Melissa and Monica, and a grandmother to Isaac. My husband and I enjoy traveling, walking, biking, and movies. Our dog Skyler is a gentle and loving pet which makes each day enjoyable, and my life is always full of family and friends.
Connecting with parents and families is important to the success of our students. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I genuinely enjoy talking to the families of our students.
I love Patricia Polacco's books! It is hard to choose one, but this one, is a wonderful story of determination, persistence, hard work and love. A heartwarming tale of a little girl named Fiona, who emigrated from Ireland. Her talent for making lace helped to support her family through difficult times. This story is inspiring!
