The Horwitz - DeRemer Planetarium
Due to prevention measures the Waukesha School system has put into place to prevent the possible spread of the Corona Virus, all Mesmerica shows, all public shows, and all activities at the planetarium have been canceled. The Waukesha School system and the Waukesha County Park system have decided the planetarium staff should cancel all activities until May 10.
Please contact Mesmerica to workout rescheduling (see below).
The district, also, has canceled all school field trips to the planetarium until further notice. Please contact us for future date rescheduling.
Thank for your understanding.

Coronavirus show postponements - a message from our CEO
Dear ticket holders
These are exceptional circumstances we all find ourselves in. Our overriding priority is to keep you safe, which is why we have voluntarily postponed most of our shows.
In putting your health first, our team are directly risking their jobs. So we are asking foryour understanding and help by not requesting refunds/chargebacks on your Mesmerica tickets at this time.
Mesmerica has already paid for venues, staffing and marketing costs out of everyone’s ticket income, so trying to refund tickets right now would quickly bankrupt the company.
We will be announcing replacement dates as soon as the all-clear is eventually given by the medical authorities. You will be able to move your existing tickets to a choice of dates at any of our 30 venues across US and Canada (in case you have changed location by then).
If you cannot make any of the replacement shows once announced, we will be happy to refund you then, or exchange your tickets for gift certificates for friends/family.
As a grateful thank-you from us for helping our team, we will also be offering all those who attend the replacement shows complimentary tickets to the second Mesmerica show Mesmerica Beautifica, currently in production. This show is scheduled for release in US/Canadian theaters late 2020/early 2021.
We hope that you understand our extremely difficult position in this time of great uncertainty and fear, and that we are putting your health above our company’s safety. We all need to work together to minimise not just the spread of the virus but also the damage to our economy and arts scene.
We will be back in touch with new dates as soon as the authorities tell us it is safe for us to reopen.
Thank you for your continued support and patience.
Jon Cotton - CEO, Mesmerica.

The original School District of Waukesha Charles Horwitz Planetarium opened in January 1978 and named after Mr. Charles Z. Horwitz, a well-respected Science Teacher, Principal, and Science Director for the School District of Waukesha.
A new planetarium was built in 2005 to replace the original facility and is located in Waukesha County’s Retzer Nature Center. In the Spring of 2018, the planetarium was renamed. David A. DeRemer was director of the planetarium from 1978 to 2018. In 2005, Dave received the Lifetime Excellence in Education Award from the Waukesha Education Foundation and was instrumental in fund-raising, planning, and building the new planetarium. To honor Dave’s commitment to the success of the planetarium and to recognize his dedication to the students and community of Waukesha, the “Friends of the Planetarium” and School Board of Waukesha voted to rename the planetarium the Horwitz – DeRemer Planetarium.
The planetarium is not only an accurate day and night sky projection system, but the program serves as a district and community science resource center. School and community programs are designed to meet state and national astronomy standards, but these programs also present fundamental science concepts of weather, climate, chemistry, physics, and earth science.
A Community Resource (Retzer Nature Center)
The planetarium shares a cooperative agreement with the Waukesha County Park System to serve the community as a local earth and space science resource. With the emphasis on family programming, the planetarium presents daily and weekend astronomy shows to the public. The planetarium is also available for private groups such as scouts, church groups, birthday parties, science clubs, senior citizens, or daycare centers. Regular public sky-watching sessions are provided by the planetarium, providing members of the community opportunities to observe sky objects through telescopes and binoculars.
