    Our Story

Banting Elementary school opened its doors in 1966.  We began as a neighborhood school and have evolved over the years to a school that draws from the Waukesha community, and neighboring districts-Elmbrook, Pewaukee, Milwaukee, and Kettle Moraine.  Within the last ten years the Banting community also draws students from diverse cultural backgrounds representing countries such as India, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Nepal, and South Africa.

Our school offers children the opportunity to participate in our unique dual language programming starting in 4 year old Kindergarten.  They may also participate in our equally unique monolingual (English) programming. Regardless of the choice, students are learning from students in an amazingly diverse environment preparing for a global society. Students in the Dual Language program are a mix of native Spanish-speakers, English-speakers, and simultaneous bilinguals becoming bilingual and biliterate in both Spanish and English while they learn the content. Students in the monolingual program are also a beautifully diverse mix of cultures and traditions.

    Our Staff

Banting has 21 classroom teachers, 28 additional teachers and support staff, and 3 custodians.  Our staff represents countries from around the world including Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru and the Dominican Republic.  Over 50% of our teachers have master’s degrees in various content areas. This includes teachers with reading licenses and certified as math teacher leaders. Many of our teachers also have vast cultural teaching experiences in countries such as Honduras, Japan, Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, Costa Rica, Fiji, France, Italy, Germany, Chile, Panama, Belize, Panama and El Salvador.  Professional Learning Communities all work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive learning environment for our students.

    Our Students

Banting students create a lively atmosphere that is filled with energy and excitement for learning! There are approximately 500 students from diverse cultural backgrounds, economic statuses, and a myriad of abilities and talents. Each child’s uniqueness is embraced, appreciated, and celebrated by staff and students.

All students are active participants in their learning, setting goals to reach their potential.  Starting in Fall of 2014, Banting became a 1:1 school where each student received an iPad to help foster personalized learning. Teachers provide learning at each students’ “just right" level.
