FRA Americanism Essay

  • Description:

    • All entrants shall be students in grades 7-12 (or equivalent)
    • Entrants must be sponsored by a branch of the Fleet Reserve Association or a unit of the Ladies Auxiliary, or by an FRA Member-at-Large.
    • The essay shall be on the theme designated and shall not exceed 350 words.
    • The essay shall be legibly written or typed on one side and one page only.
    • The title of the essay shall be written or typed at the top of the paper.
    • A student may submit only one entry each year.
    • Each entry must be accompanied by a separate sheet stating; the entrant's name; address; zip code; telephone number; school grade (or equivalent); name of school or the words "home Schooled;" number of words in essay; and the sponsoring branch/unit or sponsor's name.
    • Entries submitted to branches shall be submitted to the Branch Americanism-Patriotism Committee and postmarked not later than December 1, for judging at the branch level.
    • Entries sponsored by membership at large members shall be submitted to the national chairman and forwarded to an appropriate branch for judging in their respective grade group. All entries shall be postmarked not later than December 1.

National Honor Society

  • Description:

    The National Honor Society Scholarship Fund has been established to support and grow the prestigious National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship program.

    NHS is the oldest and best-known student recognition program. For nearly 100 years, NHS members have been making a difference in their schools and communities through their scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Alumni include celebrated individuals from all walks of life, including the arts and sciences, government, education, medicine, the military, politics, and athletics.

    To recognize the most outstanding NHS members, the organization has been awarding its respected NHS Scholarship to hundreds of students every year-helping make their higher education aspirations more affordable.

    How to Apply:

    • Senior members of an active NHS chapter who are in good standing are eligible to apply for an NHS Scholarship.
    • NHS Members must create a student account before they can access the NHS Scholarship application.
    • The NHS adviser must verify the student’s membership before the student can begin the application.
    • Verified NHS members may start the NHS Scholarship application beginning on October 1.
    • All applications require two recommendations, and certification by the NHS adviser in order to be considered complete. Incomplete applications are not evaluated.

    Award Amount:

    • 1 National Winner – $25,000 scholarship
    • 24 national finalists – $5,625 scholarship
    • 575 national semifinalists – $3,200 scholarship
    • Total scholarships awarded: 600
    • Total scholarship distribution: $2 million

Wisconsin Pork Association Scholarship

  • Description:

    The Wisconsin Pork Association is sponsoring a scholarship program for Wisconsin high school seniors recognizing individuals pursuing a career in agriculture. Preference will be given to those students possessing leadership abilities and interests in the swine industry. 

    1. Applicants must possess a sincere interest in the pork industry
    2. All applicants must pursue post-high school education, i.e. college, vocational school, or short course.
    3. All applicants are required to fill out and return the attached form no later than DECEMBER 1, 2021, to: WPA, PO Box 327, Lancaster, WI 53813.
    4. Only seniors in a Wisconsin high school are eligible to apply.
    5. Finalists for the scholarship will be asked to complete a phone interview to determine the scholarship winners. Finalists will be notified in late December.
    6. One $500 scholarship and one $400 scholarship will be awarded.
    7. The scholarship winners will be notified in January and invited to attend the WPA Annual Meeting when scholarship winners are announced.
    8. The scholarship will be awarded after the WPA office has received a copy of the recipient’s first semester transcript showing the student is in good academic standing.

United States Senate Youth Program for Wisconsin

  • Description:

    The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 59th Anniversary program will be held in virtually this year March 14-18, 2021.   (Official 2021 brochure for the program)

    Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

    In the past, all transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

Burger King Scholars

  • Description: 

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    BURGER KING® General Track - Available to all high school seniors who meet the criteria below.
    Note: Employees, spouses or domestic partners of employees, and dependent children of employees who meet eligibility requirements for the General and Employee-Based Track will be considered for an award in both tracks, but if selected, will receive only one award.

    Applicants must-

    • Be living in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico
    • Be graduating high school seniors (U.S. and Puerto Rico), graduating from grade 12 (Canada) or graduating from home school education in the U.S., Puerto Rico or Canada
    • Have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent
    • Plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2021-22 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico

Xello High School Scholarship

  • Description:

    The Wisconsin School Counselor Association (WSCA), in partnership with Xello, has established the WSCA High School Scholarship Program to assist students with their post-secondary education.

    Unless otherwise specified, you must:

    • Be a Wisconsin resident. Residency is defined by WSCA when:
      • An independent student or the parents of a dependent student have continuously resided in Wisconsin for the previous 12 months.
      • A student has continuously enrolled a minimum of one academic year within the past 12-month period at a Wisconsin high school.
      • Be a graduating Wisconsin high school student during the current academic year.
      • In the state of Wisconsin for any reason, other than a temporary purpose (ie. student visa, travel visa, etc.)
    • Are attending a public or private high school in Wisconsin
    • Will be attending a post-secondary education program during the 2021-2022 school year.

Engineers Foundation of Wisconsin

  • Description:

    EFW College Freshman Scholarships (for current high school seniors)

    • The Engineering Foundation of Wisconsin Scholarship, 6 scholarships, each $2,000.
    • The WSPE Past Presidents Scholarship, 1 scholarship, $2,000.
    • The Louis C Geiger Scholarship, 3 scholarships, each $2,000.
    • The Terry Ni Engineering Scholarship, one to four scholarships at a minimum of $3,000 each.

AFSCME Family Scholarship

  • Description:

    Each year the AFSCME Family Scholarship Program provides ten $2,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors that will be renewed for $2,000 each year for a maximum of four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time course of study. The scholarship may be used for any field of study.

    Are You Eligible?

    • At the time of application, be a graduating high school senior whose parent, legal guardian or financially responsible grandparent is a full dues-paying AFSCME member;
    • At the time the scholarship is awarded, be enrolled in a full-time degree program either at an accredited four-year institution or at a two-year institution that will transfer credits to a four-year institution; and
    • Have taken the SAT or the ACT.
    • Return complete application with all required documentation postmarked by December 31, 2020 deadline.
