Welcome to Prairie
Hello Prairie Friends and Families,
My name is Carly Solberg and I am honored to serve as the Principal at Prairie Elementary School. It is my top priority to ensure that all students at Prairie feel a sense of belonging and spend their days engaged in rigorous learning opportunities so that they can positively impact the world. I believe in leading with a sense of urgency and compassion. I am incredibly thankful to be surrounded by a community that is dedicated to the growth of our students at Prairie.
I have been a part of the School District of Waukesha community since the beginning of my career. I began my teaching career at Whittier Elementary before transitioning to Hawthorne Elementary. At Hawthorne Elementary I served as a teacher, an instructional coach, and as the Principal. I received my undergraduate degree and teaching license from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I received my Master’s degree, administrative license and curriculum director license from Cardinal Stritch University. I received my reading specialist license from Carroll University. I value lifelong learning for myself, our staff and our students. I am thankful for the educational and professional opportunities I have experienced in my career in the School District of Waukesha and am committed to passing these types of high quality learning experiences along to others. I am thrilled to serve as an instructional leader at Prairie.
Currently, I live in Dousman with my family. My husband, Eric, is a Special Education Teacher and football coach at Kettle Moraine High School. We have a son named Phoenix who is three years old. We have a daughter named Zodi who is one and a half. And, we are excited to welcome a new baby into our family at the end of September! We also have the sweetest dog named Wiley. Wiley and the kids are the best of friends. We are avid Badger fans and enjoy spending time outdoors and visiting with family and friends. The most important part of a school is the group of people that make up the community. I value building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families. I am eager to meet all of our new students and families and welcome back those that are returning!
At Prairie our teachers are committed to engaging students in rigorous learning opportunities in a variety of content areas including literacy, math, social studies, science, social-emotional learning, physical education, art, and music. In the School District of Waukesha, we believe in teaching through a workshop approach where learners participate in whole group and small group lessons that are tailored to meet the needs of the learners in the group. Students also meet with their teachers individually based on their personal goals.
I look forward to getting to know each of you throughout the upcoming school year. Thank you in advance for trusting our dedicated team to spend our days learning with your students. It’s an honor to be a part of Team Prairie. Go Pumas!
