Why Academy Education?

  • Student Interest and Needs
An Academy is designed around an individual’s interests and subsequent needs. Our unique learner profile sessions allow us to learn more about a student’s unique learning styles, readiness, strengths, and opportunities for growth through a student reflective process! Learners in the Academies are active participants in setting goals, planning learning paths, tracking their own progress, and determining how learning will be demonstrated. Our two Academies offer students a unique customizable experience in two critical fields: Engineering and Health Professions. These were specifically chosen through student interest and future job growth.

    Experience
We believe that the Academy experience for students holds the greatest leverage to transform the student educational design and build capacity for dramatic improvement in the performance of the student by making direct connections to their field of interest. There are three core components to our Academy learning environment:

    • Comprehensive, data-rich learner profiles
    • Customized learning paths, with a movement towards
    • Proficiency-based learning

    Learner Experience Has Evolved
Our journey towards a student focused learning has evolved. The Academies place the student at the front, allowing us to change from a “lesson approach” to a learning experience approach. Learning experiences, not only organically include 21st century learning skills, but also provide content through an interactive, collaborative, and learning rich approach.

    Personalized Learning
Through a meaningful partnership with CESA #1(Cooperative Educational Service Agencies) and The Institute for Personalized Learning: a division of CESA #1, we’ve learned that personalizing the educational experience for students holds the greatest leverage to transform the current educational design and build capacity for dramatic improvement in the performance of the educational system. A personalized learning system provides opportunities to maximize the potential of all students based on their needs, abilities, and preferences. There are three core components to a
    personalized learning system:

    • Comprehensive, data-rich learner profiles
    • Customized learning paths
    • Proficiency-based progress

Personalized learning will continue to evolve and grow. The Institute for Personalized Learning has designed a graphic to help us see education and student learning
    through a different lens.
