Parent-Teacher-Student Organization (PTSO)

  • Thank you to all who came to the PTSO interest meeting on February 19. A lot of information was covered, so here are some important points:

ALL parents and guardians can become a member of Waukesha STEM Academy PTSO and there are no dues to be a member. As a member you can attend monthly meetings and vote, get connected with other parents, learn about volunteering opportunities, bring your ideas and concerns and strengthen the connection between families and the administration/teachers.

The active members of the organization consist of both parents and teachers who volunteer their time to enhance the educational experience of every child in our school. The PTSO is an independent organization and we do not belong to any state or national affiliation, or support any political platforms. Because we are a PTSO we keep all of the funds that we raise for our school rather than sending money for state and/or national dues or fees.

The mission of the PTSO is to facilitate a relationship between home and school in which parents, teachers and students cooperate in combined efforts to bring the best available educational, physical, social and thought provoking opportunities to all the students of Waukesha STEM Academy. This relationship will be encouraged through fundraising, special events, open communication and encouraging student, parent and administration/teacher involvement in social functions.

The Waukesha STEM Academy PTSO’s number one priority is connecting with parents. Research shows that when parents get involved in their children’s education, the children do better in school and the school as a whole becomes more successful. Plus, by getting parents to feel a connection with the school and our group, we’ll be able to accomplish much more than we would by trying to do everything with a handful of dedicated parents and teachers. Our primary objective is to support our school and our students.

To meet this extremely important goal, fundraising is our biggest action. In these times of shrinking school budgets, that function has taken on an increased importance in many communities. And we do spend routine amounts for enrichment programs, teacher appreciation and school activities- including field trips. But we also buy big ticket items- like a new gym floor. Successful PTSOs don't live to fund-raise, they fund-raise to live. In other words, we focus on building the kind of school community where teachers and students can do their best work. That means running family events, like Open House, Dances, Book Fair and the Spring Food Truck Fundraiser. We organize volunteers to help teachers with school events and our committees with events and fundraisers. What we can accomplish is as diverse as the needs of our school.

But as you can imagine, to meet all of the goals that we have, we need ACTIVE participation.

This is where you come in...

We truly understand how daunting volunteering can be. Questions such as:

"How much time are we talking about here?", "Will I be required to take on an event or committee responsibilities?", or something as simple as, "What exactly is required of me?" are all very normal.

No PTSO member will ever be forced to dedicate more time than they are willing or to be coerced into any undertaking that they are not comfortable with. Any time that any individual is willing to offer is incredibly valuable. We also understand that in today's world it is increasingly more difficult to be able to find time to give, even such as one to two hours a month, which is how often the organization meets. We understand that childcare is not always easy, and families are always welcome to attend the meetings.

Volunteering doesn't mean a huge time commitment. And whatever your time schedule and interests are, we have need of you. We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day, or that don't even involve coming to the school at all.

Becoming active is really easy- and it really makes a difference! Please fill out our Membership Form (https://goo.gl/forms/3QsS13PzOQzldDpW2) And if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please reach out to WSAPTSO@gmail.com
    Thank you!
