Special Education

The School District of Waukesha special education department provides services for students who are identified with a disability. Students who are suspected of having a disability are referred for an evaluation to determine if they have a special need in one of the following areas:

  • Educational Autism

  • Specific Learning Disability

  • Significant Developmental Delay

  • Intellectual Disability

  • Speech/Language Disability

  • Orthopedic Impairment

  • Visual Impairment

  • Hearing Impairment

  • Emotional Behavioral Disability

  • Other Health Impairment

If a student is determined through the evaluation process to have a disability and needs special education services to access a Free Appropriate Public Education, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed. The IEP will identify goals, objectives, support and related services the student requires to benefit from his education. Following the development of the IEP, an appropriate educational placement will be determined and offered to the parents/guardians. The parents are an integral part of the IEP process and IEP team.
