Waukesha Proud, Waukesha Strong

The area served by the School District of Waukesha is a diverse community that has a proud heritage and strong sense of community.

Although the greater Waukesha area is located only fifteen miles west of Milwaukee, its unique history is reflected in the buildings, industries, and people who have made it their home.

Waukesha offers affordable housing and a mix of century-old buildings and newly built subdivisions. It also possesses a strong business base of large corporations and small single-owner businesses. As a result, it is a community that holds to its small-town roots while readily fostering modern initiatives.

The School District of Waukesha is the seventh largest school district in Wisconsin. It serves 12,080 students in seven municipalities, including Waukesha, Pewaukee, and Brookfield, and the towns of Waukesha, Brookfield, Delafield, and Genesee. The district covers an area of 69.7 square miles with an overall population of approximately 94,437.

Our schools are typically organized with grades 4K through fifth in the elementary schools, grades six, seven, and eight in the middle schools, and grades nine through twelve in the high schools. There are twelve elementary schools (including one charter school and one magnet school.) four middle schools (including one charter school.) six high schools (including three comprehensive high schools and three charter schools) and one virtual school: grades 4K - 12 (charter school.)

The district also provides a full range of services besides regular education programs. They include arts-infused curriculum, bilingual services, dual language programming, gifted and talented, and STEM education. The district also provides accommodations for students with a disability under section 504 of the rehabilitation act, and special education for students who are eligible for services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

The School District of Waukesha is proud of its long history of academic achievement and looks to continue this tradition by providing the finest educational opportunities to support our students in developing the capacity and skills to be community, college, and career ready.
