Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship

  • Description:

    The purpose of the Kohl Excellence Scholarship program is to recognize student leadership, citizenship, school and community involvement, and academic achievement. Their goal is to encourage Wisconsin youth to pursue post-secondary education in a public or nonpublic university, college or vocational/technical college. The Foundation awards $10,000 scholarships to 100 Wisconsin high school graduates each year. This is a competitive scholarship. Applications must be typed. Students will be evaluated on their leadership, citizenship, school and community involvement, and academic achievement. In addition, students will be evaluated on their ability to clearly articulate goals in each of four areas: future educational goals, personal life goals, community/society service goals, and career goals.

    Each student must submit three letters of recommendation, one from each of the following categories: 

    • Current teacher or Previous year's teacher
    • Counselor or Principal
    • Letters of recommendation will be evaluated on how well they describe the student's improvements, contributions, and successes.

    Most Valuable Student Scholarships

    500 four-year scholarships, for graduating high school seniors based on financial need, leadership and scholarship. Applicants need not be related to the Elks. Male and female applicants compete separately.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

    The spirit of our free enterprise system resides in the dreams of our young people. Everyday in Wisconsin there are young people that do what many only dream about. They turn their dream into reality, take a chance on success and have a big impact on the lives of others while doing something they love. Who are they? They are young entrepreneurs.

    EY, Junior Achievement and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction would like to give recognition to an individual from 5th grade through 12th grade that is making their mark on our free enterprise system by turning a business idea into a reality; an individual who applied the entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated business knowledge to realize an actual operating business.

    Eligibility:
    You must meet the following requirements:

    • Any student (grade 5th -12th) who is a legal resident of the United States and the State of Wisconsin who is currently enrolled in a primary, middle or high school (public, parochial, private, virtual, or home school).
    • Applicant does not need to be a JA student.
    • Owner(s) or manager(s) of a private or public company. Business may be seasonal and must have been in operation since January 2020. Multiple owners will equally share the scholarship/cash prize. The business must have been created by the applicant(s), whom must have had continuity of ownership/management throughout the existence of the business. The applicant must have created the business and had continuity of ownership throughout the existences of the business.
    • Finalists must be available for a live presentation (safe & socially distanced) on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 3:30 – 5 PM. Travel to Milwaukee, WI for the presentation is preferred, but not required. One room of lodging will be covered by JA.
    • Is not a previous winner of this award.

Wisconsin Antique Dealers Association

  • Description:

    The Wisconsin Antiques Dealers Association is pleased to sponsor our 13th Annual Scholarship competition for high school seniors.  All Waukesha County, Wisconsin public & private high school seniors graduating in 2022 are invited to participate.

    Scholarships of $500 each will be awarded to a minimum of two top-qualifying entries based on the quality of an essay written on one of the following topics:

    • HISTORY & PRESERVATION OF OUR MATERIAL CULTURE: “Why is it important to understand and preserve your family’s heirlooms?”  Include the history of your family heirloom(s) & attach a photo of the object(s) discussed.  If additional help is needed, student can interview select dealers at the Oct. 1&2, 2021 antiques show at Waukesha Expo to obtain more information about the object(s).  (See http://www.wisconsinantiquesdealers.com for show information.) 

    • FOR HISTORICAL SITE VOLUNTEERS:  “Explain the important role of volunteers at historic sites or museums and their positive impact in preserving our local heritage.” (Documentation of volunteer hours at historic sites or museums must accompany this essay.)  

     GUIDELINES:

    • 2021-2022 Competition is open to all Waukesha County, Wisconsin public & private high school seniors.
    • Student must have plans to apply for admission to a university, community college or technical school located in Wisconsin.
    • Entries may be computer generated or hand written in English, on one side of 8-1/2” x 11” paper, 500 words or less.  Student may use as many pages as necessary.
    • Student must compose the essay without assistance from others, but may use reference materials.
    • If reference materials are used, a bibliography should be included.
    • Essay title, student’s name, mailing address, email address, telephone number and school should appear on page 1.
    • Sentence construction, punctuation usage, spelling, organization and neatness will be part of the judging process.
    • All entries must be authenticated by the student’s Guidance Office or by the Director of the museum or historical society for which they volunteer. Authentication would include a note on official school, museum or historical society letterhead or a seal embossed with the name of the school, museum or historical society.
    • All entries must be postmarked no later than November 30, 2021 and should be mailed to:
