As we approach the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, we want to thank our students and families for their continued partnership in helping keep our schools safe, supportive, and focused on learning.
At the end of the last school year, we have experienced two accidents involving students operating e-bikes in unsafe ways on or near school property. Thankfully, no critical injuries occurred, but these incidents serve as an important reminder that safety must remain a priority for all members of our school community.a
E-bikes have become a popular form of transportation for many students. However, there are important considerations related to rider age requirements, speed capabilities, and safe operation. Accordingly, we are asking our families to speak with their children about safe riding habits and appropriate behavior while on school grounds and in surrounding areas.
In the School District of Waukesha, we ask students to:
• Ride at safe and appropriate speeds near schools and in surrounding neighborhoods
• Walk their e-bikes once they reach school grounds
• Follow all traffic laws and school expectations at all times
• Yield to pedestrians, buses, and vehicles
• Avoid reckless riding, racing, weaving through traffic, or riding on sidewalks crowded with students
• Park and secure e-bikes only in designated bike rack areas
• Wear helmets and other recommended safety equipment whenever riding
School safety extends beyond the classroom. Our parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and school grounds are shared spaces where students, staff, families, and visitors should feel safe at all times. Each of us has a responsibility to contribute to that environment through responsible choices and awareness of others.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home. By working together, we can help ensure that all students begin the school year safely and successfully.
