"In case you didn't know, the moon reaches the new moon phase tonight! Therefore, if the weather cooperates, it would be an ideal night for stargazing! You don't NEED to use anything fancy to see some cool stuff, just your eyes, a sky map/star finder, and some patience!

Today, 1-28, is known as Christa McAuliffe Day. Christa McAuliffe made history as the 1st teacher & civilian to go to space. Unfortunately, McAuliffe was aboard the Challenger shuttle when it experienced a catastrophic event taking the lives of the entire crew on January 28, 1986

It's Moon Fact Monday! 2025 will be a fun year for our Moon. We will see 12 full moons, 3 supermoons, & 2 lunar eclipses. In fall 2025, the moon will be the focus of the Artemis II mission! Be sure to keep your eye on the night skies (& our social media!) for more info.

It's a great time to search for Orion's hunting dogs! The stick-figure-dog-shaped constellation Canis Major (Big Dog) is easy to spot, standing on the tip of its tail in the SE a few hours after sunset, below Orion the Hunter. It has the brightest star in the sky, Sirius.

"Just a reminder that the we will not be offering the ""As an Astronomer"" tonight, due to a scheduling conflict. We apologize for the confusion and will happily share on social media if we will offer it another time.
