Have you hiked the 'Purple Planetary Pathway' yet? Fall would be the perfect time! During Summer 2024, along with Retzer Nature Center, we transformed Retzer's purple loop into an 'out of this world' hiking experience. The trail, approximately 4500ft long, features signs highlighting planets and other astronomical objects within our solar system, showcasing some of Waukesha County's prettiest sights. Check it out if you can! Let us know what you think!

"🌌 Fun Fact Friday! 🌌
Did you know that Saturn is so light it could float in water (if you could find a bathtub big enough)? 🛁🪐
Even though it's the second-largest planet in our solar system, Saturn is made mostly of hydrogen and helium, making it less dense than water. So technically… it’s a giant floating balloon in space! 🎈💫

Tonight, Saturn is at opposition. What does this mean? The ringed planet, Saturn, lies on the opposite side of Earth from the Sun, which means it is visible from sunset to sunrise! #wherethestarshangout

Look to the east just before sunrise today, you'll see a trio of celestial objects in a magnificent conjunction. Look east toward the waning, crescent Moon setting in the sky and you'll notice that the Moon will be nestled up right next to both Venus and Regulus, one of the brightest stars in the night sky. The three are part of a conjunction, which simply means that they look close together in the sky (even if they’re actually far apart in space).
