Happy Friday the 13th! People are superstitious about Friday the 13th & Full Moons. How often do the happen on the same night? The last Friday the 13th full moon was in Oct. 2000 & it won't happen again until Aug. 2049. On average, they coincide about once every 20 years!

Welcome to another ""Thoughtful Thursday!""
Have a great rest of your week, everyone!

Look to the east-northeast for Regulus and Mercury rising together in the morning twilight sky! The pair are separated by about half a degree.

Saturn, the 6th planet of our solar system, will be at its brightest tonight as it rises while the sun sets. It will be visible without the help of optical aids, but you’ll need a telescope to see its rings. Telescope viewers may also catch some of Saturn’s 83 orbiting moons.

Just another reminder that the Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium is CLOSED for the next couple of weeks. So, no planetarium shows today, as the dome improvements are in full swing! We'll be excited to see you again at Apple Harvest Festival on September 21st!

"🌟It's Flashback Friday!🌟
20 years ago....Charles Horwitz (now Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium) was beginning construction at its current location!! Now, it's in the process of getting a "face lift"!
Thanks Great Lakes Planetarium Association for the "blast from the past" memory!

Mercury reaches its greatest western elongation, approximately 18º from the Sun. It is low in E-NE morning twilight sky for the 1st 3 weeks of Sept. & makes its best morning apparition for northern observers in 2024. It reaches peak brightness of 9/13!

It's our last Wednesday shows until our closure for improvements! So, if the Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium is on your summer bucket list, today is it!
11am- 3-2-1 Liftoff: Space Adventure of Elon the Hamster
12pm- Legends of the Night Sky: Laser Shows
1pm- Forward! To the Moon

Tonight, check out Saturn in the evening sky. The Moon passes north of the ringed planet around 10pm. In addition, this pairing will be located within Aquarius. You may need to use binoculars or telescope, as Saturn's light may be washed out by the Moon!

Check out the Full Moon tonight!
The 8th full Moon of the year, the Sturgeon Moon, will actually reach its peak brightness during the afternoon hours. However, this full Moon is the 1st of 4 Supermoons in 2024. It is the 3rd of 4 full Moons within an astronomical season.

It is a jammed-packed week. AND, it's your last chance to see a show in the dome before it receives its major facelift for the next few weeks! Especially for laser shows, we HIGHLY recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time.

Another summer Saturday, another fun lineup! All shows are $5. Tickets @ hdplanetarium.ticketleap.com. Be aware that coupon codes & free passes are not valid for our laser shows, only public shows. We HIGHLY recommend purchasing tickets for laser shows early. Have a good weekend!

Don't forget! Look at the early morning sky to see Mars & Jupiter. Two planets together, look toward the east. Mars & Jupiter will rise around the same time in the middle of the night, & climb slowly into the sky before fading from view as dawn breaks.
