Tonight is the time to sneak a peek at Mercury if you can!
It is at its greatest elongation east, meaning the Sun & Mercury are the farthest apart in the sky. Start observing after the sun sets (5:29pm) & watch our smallest planet until it sets below the western horizon!

Thank you to everyone who attended Wild
Winter Night on Friday! It was busy, but we hope you
enjoyed your time at the planetarium and checking out
the nature activities that @friendsofretzernaturecenter
had for guests of all ages!
If you were able to take a peek at the night sky with our
volunteers Dan and Lee Friday, it was beautiful night
to do so! Dan shared these images of M31-Orion
Nebula and M45-The Pleiades from his Seestar scope!

"On moonless evenings this month, see if you can spot the zodiacal light. This dim glow, aligned with the ecliptic, extends steeply above the western horizon well after the low arc of the twilight glow has diminished.
From completely dark locations, the zodiacal light is almost as bright as the Milky Way. The cone extends upward through Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries. A line connecting Mercury and Saturn shows the way. Scan your eyes left and right and your peripheral vision will pick up the cone-shaped glow. SOURCE: astronomy.com"
