The KING of meteor showers peaks tonight. Astronomers estimate that up to 120 meteors per hour could be visible as we have nearly a new moon throughout the entire night sky. These meteors are known to last a little bit longer- lasting up to 2 secs. SOURCE: adlerplanetarium.org

"In case you didn't know, the moon reaches the new moon phase tonight! Therefore, if the weather cooperates, it would be an ideal night for stargazing!
You don't NEED to use anything fancy to see some cool stuff, just your eyes, a sky map/star finder, and some patience!

"Did you know that Retzer will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year? There are a lot of great programs scheduled and in store for its patrons. Make sure to follow us both on social media so that you don't miss out!

"Since Mercury is so close to the sun, we can only observe it when it reaches its “highest” aka visually furthest from the sun. So, try to take another peek at it tonight. It should be at about 10° above the western horizon, just after sunset!

Many of us have heard of the Summer Triangle. But, did you know there is also a Winter Triangle? This cold-weather asterism is now rising in the east late in the evening, inching higher into the sky day by day as we prepare for winter to begin.

Well, I'm sure we've all noticed our days getting shorter, darker mornings & nights. Tonight, the sun will set at its earliest time in 2023- 4:16pm! Thankfully the winter solstice is right around the corner (12-21), meaning our days will slowly start getting longer after this!

Still shopping for the holidays? Planetarium show passes is a great stocking stuffer for friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors! Don't forget about our current promotion! And, we're selling memberships which is a great deal for the passionate space lovers in your life!

We are excited to celebrate the super people who donate their time to help us run smoothly every day. Both Retzer & the Planetarium will honor them at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. It's just a small ""thank you"" for the big ways they help us day in & day out.

"Check out our lineup this week! If you are looking fun and unique way to enjoy the season, come check out a holiday planetarium show! Tickets are only $5.00 per person and can be purchased at the ticketing link in our bio!

It is the 1st Saturday of our holiday show schedule. We're offering a double holiday feature. At 11am, we'll show George & Oatmeal Save Santa /Season of Light. At 1pm, we'll have Mystery of the Christmas Star. Both are super options & a great way to celebrate the season.

What a way to start December! Mercury will be visible in the sky just after sunset! The planet will sit about 6° above the SW horizon. If you can get to a location slightly higher & with few trees/buildings to the W, it will offer the best views. Mercury isn't often visible!

"Let's finish November on a thoughtful note! Have a great Thursday!

"Have you had the opportunity to check out the awesome planetarium show about solar eclipses, ""Totality?"" If not, today you will have the chance at 11am. This show does a great job explaining what the U.S. will experience, coming up on April 8th, 2024!
