On this date, back in 1965, Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov became the1st person to leave a space capsule, & tethered to it, float freely in orbit to space walk! He was the pilot of the Voskhod 2 mission, which was part of the Soviet Union's competition w/ U.S. to reach the moon!

Tonight should be a good time to try & spot Mercury in the evening sky as it will appear to be at its farthest distance from the Sun. It will officially set at 5:51pm. You will have about one hour to catch Mercury in the Western sky, near the horizon.
