Today, at 7:28am, the Earth will be the closest distance to the sun, which is approximately 91,405,993 mi miles away. This is known as the Earth being at perihelion. This phenomenon happens annually, about 2 weeks after the Winter Solstice!

The Waxing Crescent phase Moon will appear to be very close to 2 planets! Tomorrow night, check out Venus near the Moon. On Sat., the planet Saturn will be passing close to the Moon. In parts of Europe, the Moon will pass right in front of Saturn, creating a lunar occultation

Time for another meteor shower! This year, the Ursids are more favorable, with a peak coinciding with a Last Quarter Moon. The Ursids are active between Dec. 17 and 26, and peak early on the 22nd. The radiant, located in Ursa Minor, is visible all night.
